PLEASE NOTE: I will be flying to Texas on Thursday for the WEC Lone Star LeMans, after which I will be attending a conference in Folsom until the 20th.
I'll be working on edits in the evening while I travel but photo turn-around time may be slower than usual, sorry for the inconvenience!
Another smooth day with OnGrid in the books — it was a bit toasty around the track but not as bad as the previous weekend where the temperature on the tarmac was an alleged 135F.
We left Fremont at around 5am which isn't too bad, but I definitely miss being 45 minutes from the track when I lived in Chico. Anyone up early was rewarded with an awesome sunrise peaking through the hazy morning air, though. We arrived just in time for the first drivers meeting
I had a great time shooting and experimenting with new angles at West after hitting up my normal spots. I managed over 4,000 shots myself and after Cody's contributions we had nearly 6,000. There should be plenty of photos of everyone's cars, and more panning shots than usual.
It might have had something to do with the massive amount of clicks I put on my cameras a couple weeks ago when I covered the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion for Speedhunters where I got plenty of practice with slower shutter speeds. Take a break from of your busy work day to take a look at the article 😉
As always, getting some rolling shots at lunch was a good time too; thanks to Brandon for being such a good driver and supplying Cody and me with a prime vehicle for our shenanigans. I managed to take over 700 photos during the thirty minutes of track time we had! Follow me on Instagram to stay up to date on availability of rollers as well as when I open discounted pre-orders for OnGrid's next events.
It's also worth pointing out this Pruis, because...it's a Prius. Proof you can track anything if you plant your right foot down properly. And since a photo doesn't always tell the whole story we can just pretend he was passing this S2K here (he actually may have been, who knows).
There were a couple of offs I caught on camera, but both of these guys went right back on track and drove themselves into pit lane. Where, naturally, they had a stern meeting with Val (our favorite grid worker who is leaving for Oregon at the end of this month). Be sure to say goodbye if you're back at the track before then!
There was no Miata madness for me, though, as my car wasn't quite ready. I spun a bearing at Buttonwillow when all of my oil inconveniently and suddenly relocated to my bellhousing where it doesn't do anyone any good. It made it home from the shop at my work on its own power this weekend though, which is certainly a step in the right direction after a fairly straightforward swap — thanks to all my Miata pals for their help and advice.
Of course, there are also two-wheeling shots. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Zach took high score for the day; Marc's E46 was not far behind, and this Trueno was sending it too!
