Last Saturday was my last day shooting with SpeedSF for the time being. I'm graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and want to spend my weekends wrenching on my new-to-me NB Miata or exploring avenues to photograph racing and featured builds for publications (keep your eyes on Speedhunters later this month for an article from yours truly). Thank you to SpeedSF for the good times and all of the drivers I've met. I hope to see you guys around and if you know anyone who needs to hire an entry level engineer, let me know 😉 (UPDATE: I have accepted a job offer an an Mechanical / Automation Engineer in Fremont, CA. Thank you to a few of you sent me some leads!).
Saturday was your standard track day. All types of cars were present from Miatas to McLarens and a few guys had some big moments on the track.
I think this BMW takes the high score again for most air through turn three, although last month I caught him getting quite a bit more air.
The SpeedSF Challenge was a success with lots of previous class records broken on Saturday. And speaking of racing I went over the hill to check out what was happening on the other side after spotting some open wheel cars hamming around the East course.
I certainly wasn't disappointed — there was some very cool machinery out there and as it was lunch the mechanics (and even some drivers) were tearing into them.
Getting media access to classic road racing, big events, and professional drifting were previously out of my reach but this is more the flavor of the sort of thing I hope to transition into shooting. I'll still make time for the occasional track day, but hopefully more of them will be behind the wheel rather than behind the camera (or both!).
Again, thanks to SpeedSF and everyone I've met at the track. Be sure to check the 'Unsorted' folder for extra photos, many of my favorite angles at West are impossible to read the car number. Any guesses what number this Miata is running...? Exactly. Remember, any photos you purchase will have the logos removed and will be edited like the shots here. See you guys around!
